About Outdoor Citizens
HOP prefers the term Outdoor Citizen because the word "homeless" has become almost a badge of dishonor for millions who are suffering in poverty. It is a word that is disdained by individuals who know nothing about the pilgrimage thousands make each night to find sleep under a bridge, in a waiting room or cell, aboard 24 hour public bus/train lines, or in an overcrowded shelter. Outdoor Citizens are our neighbors and entitled to all of the rights and protections of the United States Constitution, the same rights and privileges of their fellow human beings!

Our Primary Objective:
To assist 7,000 outdoor citizens in Santa Clara County (30% are female) to return to viability by providing a forum, voice, advocacy, transitional skills and a place to build outdoor citizen run businesses. We also provide mediation, advocacy, business training and a speakers bureau for organizations that want to assist, but need to learn more about the 'outdoor citizens' demographic.
